I thought it was quite funny. Bad refereeing decisions have always been part of the game and the occasional injustice livens up an otherwise dull sport.

On reflection.

M. Henry deserves some commendation for performing an excellent service. He has brought right to centre-stage, a lively debate on the merits or otherwise of this so-called "beautiful" game, and stimulated interest in some - such as yours truly - who are generally totally disinterested, and would not normally give a 'football' thread a second glance.

Can I suggest an award be sent to this gentleman for the service he has performed? Indeed I have discovered a whole page of trophies that might suit...

Indeed , there's no justice.
Webb-Ellis does it in 1823 , a new sport is born and he is immortalised.
This guy does it and he is vilified.

I thought this was great, Ireland out, France in, but with a dented reputation. Interesting if England get to play France in the World cup next year, who will the Irish want to lose the most.;)

Top level football is as bent as a nine bob note - shocker.

Had England A gone out in that way, would the celtic nations be up in arms (no pun intended)? Highly unlikely, so tough England B you're out.

All quiet on the Platini front and Blatter has not opened his gob yet. Most unusual.
Had it been the other way round, well.
But hey never mind it was only little old Rep of Ireland.

Not a power house World Cup winning team.

Stinks just like most Frenchmen.(so i am led to understand).

Shall I mention some of the above remarks to my (French) neighbours, next time I'm in France, I wonder?:biggrin::biggrin:

A lot of unfair things happen in all sports. And I vividly remember jumping up and down in my chair in excitement (I was only a teenager then) on seeing England's third, back in 1966. I certainly believed in it at the time! But I am now absolutely convinced that subsequent evidence is correct: it was no goal. But this isn't Nineteen-Eighty-Four, we don't re-write history.

I've only just managed to see it and its really seriously bad in regards to a cheating situation.

The time is now for TV refferee - end of'!

In the instance of a team citing an opposing player of a hand ball and the ref not having seen it, it should be the refs responsability to ask the acuesed if he did commit the offence and if further evidence comes to light after the game then the lying player should be suspended for x amount of games.

Oh and as Henry has said the game should be replayed.

I've been told that the linesman who confirmed the goal was Russian and, asked later about the incident, muttered the one word reply: 'Stalingrad!'
