Did you have the garage alarmed? Were the bikes secured?
The insurance company may ask these questions and more whilst investigating your claim, they will do all they can to squirm out of paying the full amount.

Edit; just seen the above post.

That is not my experience of insurance companies - but i do not buy cheap insurance. I have had every claim settled very quickly and without quibble. The loss of my long term business would cost them more than the claim.

I'll be interested to see the OP's experience with John Lewis Insurance who sell on service not price.

This has convinced me that I made the right choiice when I decided to continue keeping my bikes in the house. I had toyed with the idea of getting one of those 'secure' metal bike sheds for my back yard but it sounds like determined thieves would have been able to break into one of those. (Obviously, they could also break into the house but I imagine that would be seen as a much more risky undertaking.)

He's 9 - Just migrated onto a 26" cross bike. They nicked that, and the Moda it replaced - we were selling that to pay for the new one.....

Bit small, I was going to offer to lend a med hardtail for him over half term, but it'll be quite a stretch, even with the post slammed.

Took the day off today to go for a ride with Mrs Kes.
Found the garage/shed has been broken into and all the families bikes have gone.

9 bikes, assorted wheelsets, spares and paraphenalia, all gone.... I've been left with a mismatched pair of MTB tyres and the frame from the winter bike I was refurbing... that was thrown on the drive.

Kes Jnr is gutted, he got a brand new Frog 70 cyclocross bike 2 weeks ago and was looking forward to doing some serious riding over half term,.

Thieving bastards must have turned up with a van... looks like they new exactly what they were after.
Plod and the Insurance co has been called.... just have to wait and see how well John Lewis insurance handles it.
I have had my garage broken into once .They stole a TV set which had a cracked screen ,Saved me taking it to the tip. They did leave me a rather large turd discreetly covered with a duster.
Up and over garage doors can be iffy .I secure mine with alock and chain threaded through door cross member and a door support. Side door is one of these triple locking jobs.

Sorry to hear this. That sounds like an organised theft.
Poor Kes Jnr. I remember clearly, my bike being stolen when I was in primary school. I went everywhere on that thing. I hope that you get something sorted for the half term for him.
