Tramps. With overcoats tied up with string. Who weren't pervs, just wandering souls, and sometimes very friendly and interesting to talk to.
"Mum, the tramp's back!" was a summer holiday refrain when he returned for his annual wander through our neighbourhood, and we'd bring him tea and biscuits and he'd chat for 20 mins, and NOT try to touch us up or anything, just tell us about far off exotic places like Scotland and Bristol that he'd also wandered through.

Kids with bubblegum cards (or ciggy cards) attached to their bicycles (with pegs, I seem to recall, but can't remember the precise method if attachment) so that they stick in between the spokes and make a noise 'just like' a motorbike.

kids with gloves tied to string down their sleeves.

My daughter kept losing her gloves over the winter, so I suggested the old string trick across the back of the coat but this ws veto'd by the wife, it seems to have gone out of fashion,
