As for strength and endurance, you may well find mac1 that some women competitors out perform men in long, long distance events. However, I look at individuals and their ability as by lumping everyone into a can/can't based on their sex is limiting.

You do that. But high level sports events are gender segregated for a reason.

In the 5 years we have been living in our current house, Mrs Ian has never been inside the 2 sheds we have and refuses to.. "far too dusty and gawd know how many spiders"

Oh yes and that reminds me.... going into the loft.. she has never been up there either.. so that is a Manly thing.
You know what I immediately thought? You have three hiding places for more N+1s!!!

Man things?

Kitting a landrover out with all the expedition type gubbins and then driving the family at 55mph up the M6 for weeks camping on a normal campsite in the Lake District.

No women would do that.
So why do men?

I am a man and ...

I have a diary that has flowers on it,

I run round flapping and screaming at the sight of spiders,

When I go to the gym, I lift weights in silence, rather than strutting around, grunting and slapping my pectoral muscles,

I hate football and know nothing about it, not do I wish to know anything about it,

I have a particular hatred of golf and know ever less about that than I do about football,

I like going to art galleries and I really do have a gay friend called Julian.

... and yet I am perfectly confident in my masculinity and heterosexuality ... go figure!

You forgot to mention you're funny blue hat and mankini

because they have no idea how to make a landrover go faster than 55mph nor how to erect a shelter

there are many people, mainly men, but a fair few women, who kit up their landrovers and set off to drive to Morocco etc completely self reliant
you could say there is something primitive and manly about it, and once upon a time you'd be right.

this sense of manly adventure comes from the times when girls were not expected to get their hands dirty unless they were in service - look at downton, the shock some people had when one of the daughters of the family decided she wanted to become a nurse to help with the war casualties in the hospital

I will do, don't worry your little head about that.

I found the above interesting. There are several sources suggesting that only solid difference between men and women is VO2Max. Muscle mass in men due to relative larger size will be greater but measuring over same area muscle itself is of similar quality..hence not a measurable and significant difference.

Compare Victoria Pendleton in her interviews to Usain Bolt. He is super confident, she often talks if self doubt. Both excellent athletes in their fields but showing very different gendered feelings. Part of this manly idea is being active, sporty etc. It's not socially considered womanly robe sporty if we're talking about stereotypes. The norms in society drilled into people can affect differences.

Whilst even casual observation at the present - eg a lot of women like their cars - means those who classify this, that or the other as masculine/feminine are wrong. You usually find older generations are like that - was their upbringing.

Shaving with a straight razor - that's a very manly thing to do.

Mind you, it's probably the only 'manly' thing I do. I hate football & laddishness, I'm not interested in fast cars, I don't letch over women, I cry at sad films, I don't think going out with the intention of getting paralytic is funny or clever and I get on better with women than I do with men (probably because they can conversations that aren't limited to football, booze and birds).

I read somewhere that Abraham Lincoln used to play with his kids which was considered un-manly in the 1800s.
