I have a feeling this might upset a few people, haha!!

- watching/supporting football. Nothing wrong with it, but is it actually manly?

- driving fast cars. Or just driving in general. Comeone... you're just turning a few gears, a wheel and pressing some pedals. F1 cars and Rally motors excepted - that DOES take skill, its like a flight deck in there!

- shouting. Shouting tends to mean you're scared.

BOO!!!

No wait! That dont count!

- not washing. Come on, you stink. Thats not social, let alone manly.

- drinking beer, spirits or getting drunk. Smoking cigars. You're gonna die early if you keep that up old son, and be a gibbering mess for the last few years of your life.

- having sex. Not manly. Its lucky. Lets face it, you're no catch. ;)

What else aint manly... prolly writing this above...

I don't suppose you meant it, but you have implied there that having skill is manly. I suspect some ladies have skill too...

But I get your overall point. Manliness is b*ll*cks. Well, of course, it is, literally, I mean the idea that to do certain things are manly, and that if you can't do them, you aren't.

The inverse of course is 'womanly'. Wearing pink and flowery stuff, childrearing*, and, alas, revelling in vapidity (*giggle* oh, I don't understand science and engines, I'm a girl).

Seen as womanly, but, done right, damn hard work that many men simply couldn't/wouldn't hack. Often done while also working in a job and looking after an additional oversized child known as a husband...

In this part of the world it's considered manly to go hunting. And get horribly drunk. And boast of your achievements. Dressed in hunting clothes or checked shirts and wear a baseball cap. Smoking or taking snus (a nicotine powder, or in a small bag) kept under the top lip for a nicotine kick.

Bollox.

Oh, and they all have to have big 4x4 trucks.

Bollox x 2.

Rant over

I know a lot of women who are a s*** load tougher than many men I have ever known. One of the toughest, butchest guys I ever met was my old neighbour, many men's jaw would drop when you were introduced to his husband, Alan. Good bloke.

Indeed... being skilled is not manly, LOL! But it bloody good.

I suppose it is all down to who is doing the 'perceiving' as to what would be perceived to be manly.

Personally I love a woman who can drive well, knows how machines work and can use a spanner, but considerably less keen on those into drinking, smoking and football interest.

I'm in agreement with Arch.

Isn't it more about certain traits/activities are seen as masculine - but you don't have to be a man to carry them out.
I'm not into this whole gender binary way of looking at people.

picking up spiders......

haha!

And football - will ruffle a few feathers...Don't see the point.
