My father in law worked for ICI as a buyer of products. He went to a facility to source some mercury and was invited to paddle across a large vat of the stuff , wearing his suit, sitting on his bum, using his hands as paddles. He said it was great fun, but that his bottom itched like hell afterwards.

As you were.

Did it improve his ability to estimate ambient temperatures?

Pranks and other such things, .

Maybe it was only at my school but back in the days when Parka anoraks (!) were the must have winter clothing accessory and bus seats still looked something like this

It was considered good fun to sit behind someone on the school bus and tie the adjustment strap thingy on the back of the Parka

To the bar on the back of the seat and then when they tried to get up  - disembarking the bus at their desired stop was rather a tricky operation involving trying to remove a coat which was tied to the seat you were sitting on and then try to untie the knot whilst everyone laughed at you and the bus driver complained about being held up.

EDIT: And to anyone under the age of about 15 - this is the sort of thing we did on the way to school before Android Tablets and smart phones - we had fun!

I had a green parka, we used to call them snorkels.

If you weren't riding a (motor) scooter you'd no business wearing a parka.

I once hired a van c. 1989, which had, unbeknownst to me, one of those newfangled automatic chokes. As every vehicle I'd driven to that point had a manual choke, I looked for the most likely looking control and adjusted it accordingly as the engine warmed up. Turned out it was the ventilation fan speed control, as my friend pointed out to me after we'd driven from Dover to Oxford.

 At least you didn't flood the engine.

You've just reminded me of a beer called Dogbolter that was sold at Firkin pubs back in the '80s, when I hadn't been drinking beer for very long. After several pints one evening, a friend untied my laces and began knotting them together. "Don't do that," I pleaded, "If you do, I'll forget." About ten minutes later I got up to go to the loo and went through an adjoining table full of drinks like a felled tree. Happy days!
