If you saw the tv programne you will understand the story and see that it is an art installation, not a home.

If you think jarring over decoration is an eyesore you're going to hate the Segrada Familia.

Exactly! Not to mention the rest of Gaudi's architecture, along with anyhting else slightly controversial. There's a difference between genuinely interesting and aestthetic design and egotistical garbage, which is a lot of architecture around the world.

Egotistical garbage in Belgrade for example:

It looks like the roof is made of milky bars.
Not Caramacs? [yuk!]

That Perry got to build an 'art installation' in the open countryside is a joke of the highest order, but one that isn't remotely funny. Money and privilege still opens doors.

Not sure you're right about privilege. He's certainly monied, but hasn't exactly been born into it.

Of course. it's a joke - and why not!

I've just discovered all my photos from Barcelona have been lost when Apple decided to move all my photos to their Cloud.... gone forever.

I could've shown you the roof details of the Casa Mila.... the structural columns in the Segrada Familia.... so many lovely things which Grayson Perry's shoebox covered in green and poo-brown glazed Victorian Toilet tiles could never hope to emulate... I think he must be colour blind- that's the kindest conclusion I can reach...

If the rules were consistant then yes I would say he can hide away his 'house' in a corner of England that will be forever his but privilege comes in many forms..... and art has a patronage that has caused many an emperor to lose his shirt and his marbles..

I saw the TV programme about this house. It was quite fun and some of the gaggle of Essex Julies he brought on a cycle pilgrimage appeared genuinely moved by the art.
It seems a bit like an idea taken too far to me but I'm probably missing the point.
One of the best things for me is it's on-the-face-of-it visual inappropriateness for the location. That's quite funny.
Is it too far for a day ride there and back from central London? I'd like to see it in the flesh.

Good lord, that may be the single ugliest building I have ever seen.

For the record, I have been in the Segrada Familia, and it is very impessive in scale. As Archie noted the internal columns are breathtaking, however the massive over ornamentation strips the building of a grace and presence that it deserves.

As for GP's house, I quite like it and understand the motivation behind it. It's public art so we are allowed to have differing opinions. For me The Angel of the North is a pointless heap of rust, but The B of Bang had an impact (shsme it was so badly made). Many will disagree :okay:
