He's got nothing to do with me, anyone who thinks my name's blackened by that bloke is an idiot.
Exactly. We're not responsible for morons like that, any more than all motorists are responsible for the silly actions of some of them.

Motorists and cyclists can both behave stupidly. Most learn and become well mannered cyclists/motorists/pedestrians. Some never learn and some of these kill themselves or cause the death of others. It is just something we have to live with.

So where was the cyclist before he "appeared from nowhere" (no such place as nowhere)?

Yes, such as: "Is our collective reputation sullied, yet?"

(I guess that depends on whether the person evaluating "our" reputation is of the "tar them all with the same brush" school of thought, or not)

Most folk lump us all together. They don't remember the curteous cyclist or driver, they remember the idiot or 'yob on a bike'. I hate to break it to you but the general public hold you in the same regard as the 'yob on a bike'. Why else do you think you get punishment passes, etc? To think joe bloggs doesn't include you in his assessment that all cyclists are idiots who hold him up and shouldn't be on the road and deserve close passes is naive.

Look at how people on this forum lump mercedes, BMW, and Audi drivers together. I have owned and driven all three. According to this forum, I'm an peanut driver.

I wouldn't brand you a peanut..... I don't know you.... Next door to me has a merc, my brother has a Audi I would say you and they are the sensible ones!

Whenever I'm in my car I always get cut up or caught up around the handful of knobheads that drive mercs & bmw's ..... Not sure why!

I drive a Mondeo St

Here for rides.
Last night a fellow cyclist, wielding a Brompton as a weapon, attempted to push past me, and several others, when we were boarding an already crowded train. They pissed off about 25 pedestrian train passengers in one go.

Another good way to harden opinion against cyclists?

I decided that a retaliatory strike, wielding my own a 58cm frame 700c diamond frame as a weapon, was inappropriate.
