Mind you, without wishing to (but actually instantly doing so) derailing this thread into a discussion of the average figure, I maintain the following:
1) British people are getting bigger on average
2) Being outwardly unfair and discriminatory towards the larger-figured is decidedly un-British
3) So, we faff about telling people not to eat too much, and to do exercise, whilst
4) also pointing out that the average figure is bigger than the models in the adverts, but also
5) putting progs on telly (a la Gok Wan) encouraging the larger-figured to 'flaunt it', and be proud of what they have.
6) All the above applies mostly to women, because
7) You simply don't see programmes encouraging the larger-figured male to 'work that beergut, brother', and 'flaunt those moobs'.
8) Just sayin, like.
