I couldn't imagine not having a car. I've been driving through fields and messing about with old cars since I was about 7 or 8. Cars have been a huge part of my life and are necessary when you live miles from anywhere like I do. I also love the freedom of being being able to go anywhere in the country when I like and being able to come home again when I like without being tied to bus timetables.

hang on...noone's mentioned yet...how many excellent top end bikes could you buy for the cost of a car....!!

I could maybe by a rear wheel for a high end bike with the money my car cost me. Buying a car is only expensive if you let it be.

I obviously use a shopping trolley around sainsburys...don't think they'd appreciate me stealing it to go home though...or do you mean one of those old lady wheelie bag things?

Most of the heavy stuff goes in a rucksack, but I had milk and wine which wouldn't fit yesterday...and tbh, carrying anything much for 30 minutes get heavy.

I was thinking 'old lady' style like these .

I said to Mrs 3BM on the weekend it was time for us to get a shopping trolley as our lads buggy bowed under the weight of 3 tons of shopping.
I fancy one of those 4 wheel semi-industrial jobbies.
Is there a special old lady shop where you buy them or are there now trendy ones for us *cough* youngsters?

And for you, the four-wheeled versions!

Growing up in London, with bikes and public transport my family never had a car.
I can drive I'm just not licenced and I've worked as a mechanic in the past but there my affinity with cars ends.

There is something pretty rewarding when a friend asks me to look at a problem with their car even tho they know that, in regards the urban/city setting I'm really anti cars.

From time to time I think about getting rid of my car but can't quite bring myself to. I could easily get to work by bus or cycle but there are times when it's just so much more convenient to go by car, although those are getting less and less now I've started cycling.

Are you going for one of the tartan ones, or perhaps the racier op-art model with spots on?

There's loads of choice. Get one to match her coat, handbag etc.

Mrs 3BM is partial to cow-print stuff so it might have to be a 2-wheel version.

I hasten to add she hasn't got cow-print coats or handbags!

Provisional. Once considered a motorbike hence the license. I'm 41 going on 42, unlikely to learn now (although I could sometimes do with a vehicle to get to races- but there are enough local events I can ride to)

I'm licenced and moderately capable, but I don't run a car at the moment - not enough money, and nowhere to park it. I'm glad to have the skill - I can always hire a car if I need to, and it makes things like moving easier if you can hire a van - even if i don't need it, I'm there to help mates out if they do. And I couldn't have got my current job without a driving licence.

I tend to think its a good skill to have, unless you are utterly incompetant at it. Anyone who takes more than 3 or 4 goes to pass I think, maybe needs to take the hint.

Thinking about it the other day, I know several people (all men) who've never learned to drive. Some of them even commit the other social sin of not having a telly. That's how 'freaky' my friends are....

I've had a licence for 24 years now, but have never owned a car. In fact I've not driven a car for 9 years either.

Must do it again sometime just to keep my hand in; I guess if I ever need a car I'll join the City Car Club and use one of theirs when I need it.

I have never learned. However, I am starting to think that maybe I should. Shocking! Well, my wife does drive, but up until a few weeks ago, never had a car. She is not a cyclist and never will be. So my dilemma now is, should I learn?
