I couldn't be arsed to read the thread but what's the actual issue here? Is there a concern about wasted server space or bandwidth or something? If people want to keep tit-for-tatting over nothing for 20+ pages, why not let 'em? I really can't see the problem. Or am I missing something?
What you're missing is that this is Café and we can post whatever irrelevant crap we want. It's what makes us annoying great.

Think of things this way.
Doping is ongoing and older methods are being used. Equipment changes & new posters to the site often start, by asking what on the surface can be a mindless task for one, but new/impossible for them. You'll therefore have a greater chance of more than two people asking very similar questions. Putting the threads together may just mean that they answer each others question.

The media have headlines and highlights on new and fresh developments because most people cannot afford to read newspapers and other media content from start to the end. No issues if it is an on-going debate on a known topic. It also addresses the points that you raised.

Notice the majority of the folders in the forum do not have this issue. It does not matter if somone raised a new thread on a topic that has already been raised the week before. There is a constant flow of new developments, queries and nes.

Chances are they'd be merged, that close together. I know development might be fast, but in a week!
