Two 30 minute rides and one of 90 minutes. The hightlight of that one was spotting some of the newly returned swallows.

This is the construction work on the new station which will be closest to me. I was on my way to the current closest one to collect tickets for a trip next week.

I just got back from my fifth ride of the week when the heavens opened and I heard the first rumble of thunder. I was really lucky not to be a mile or two down the road as it hammered down for almost an hour and the lights went off a couple of times!

I got three rides in early in the week because I was coming away to house sit for friends. I'm now in rural Dumfries and Galloway and I've brought the Brompton with me. There's not a lot of traffic about. The only vehicles past the house today were about 30 vintage tractors on their annual run. I've got in a couple of rides since I arrived and sat in the sun yesterday and cleaned the bike from top to bottom.

Roads can be a bit rough but there are some lovely rides out the east, some long uphills though

I failed last week and only got two rides in. I'm still staying at my friend's near Gretna and I had hoped to take the bike and explore part of NCN 7 one day. Unfortunately that was the day it rained all day. As I'd arranged to do a few other things while I'm over here - trip to Glasgow and a day's sewing workshop - I got a half hour ride in one evening and a slightly longer ride yesterday morning.

This week has got off to a good start though...

There is some lovely riding on some of the quieter roads and tracks around there. I actually quite like the (rather flat) ride down the old main road to Iron Bridge (you can see the footings for the old bridge in the water if it is clear). Good bimbling country on both sides of the firth, wish I could join you for a ride.

Pissing down tomorrow, so that's my lot for this week unless I get brave.

Frame of the gasometer is still standing but the tank has gone, hopefully the frame will be left up.

Luckily today's weather hasn't been as bad as was forecast so I've managed two rides today to make three for the week. There must've been a lot of rain during the night because I found that the cycle path was flooded this morning. I didn't try to ride through it - I've done that before and got very wet feet. As I wasn't heading anywhere particular I just turned around and found a drier route.

Earlier this week when I was still at my friend's he needed to visit someone near Kielder so we took the bikes - my Brompton and his road bike - and rode part of the path around the reservoir. I was pleasantly surprised how Brompton-friendly the surfaces were and it was lovely and quiet. I expect it'll get busy in the summer and at weekends, but we saw less than ten other riders and about the same number of walkers/bird watchers. Arriving at the castle we discovered two live feeds from osprey nests with one bird happily sitting on her eggs and another rearranging the nest. Heading back we joined the road for the last mile or so and that was where we were treated to the sight of a red squirrel running across in front of us.
