Morning
Its very damp here following the early morning drizzle, so I have a damp sleeping puppy on my lap. Later was supposed to be a bike ride but as we have a weather warning for thunderstorms I can’t see that happening.

Weather has been a bit 'changeable' here - veering between cloudy, tanking with rain and now sunshine. Glad I didn't ride this morning as I would have got drenched. Any how, busy morning on the corporate hamster wheel but making progress. Also looks like I'll have to show my face on Tokyo in the not too distant future.

just a smidge of rain, quick cafe stop, made it back just in time to miss the deluge

saw yet another scumbag on an illegal ebike snatching a woman's phone, kill them with fire

brekkie time, then more coffee

Article in the Guardian today where journo followed Met Police who are apprehending illegal ebike riders. Said that the majority are food delivery as we all know, but an increasingly significant rise in thieves using them. Interesting that the Police are targeting them with officers on bicycles which presents an issue as people are just cycling off knowing the cops wont be able to catch them. More worrying was the fact they had confiscated bikes capable of 70mph.

Stepson's pal is a policeman in Edinburgh and he was saying they just the left the illegal enike riders to get on with it, as they wouldn't have the back up from the force and it could ruin their career if the rider crashed and died.

Got a decent ride in with pals and a cafe stop, dodged the showers. Pub quiz tonight with some of them

That's the last of the DIY jobs done: resealing the joints on the flue from the woodburner, using proper flue sealant. If I do get here for Christmas, I didn't fancy doing it then, as my first job is to light the thing to get the kitchen above 10C as quickly as possible. Slight compromise on the inspection hole cover, which is supposed to be fixed into the bend with two screws, but one of them has corroded, so a big jubilee clip will do the job. Didn't know if I'd find one big enough, but they sell 3m lengths of the band with six of the screw mechanisms.

I know, it's all so exciting here.

Actually, it is, as a thunderstorm is just arriving, and it sounds like hail might be involved. Keep your fingers crossed my my Velux windows.

I understand where they are coming from but when you see that some of these guys are now essentially riding around on motorbikes it feels like we are at the point where Police forces need to start putting some proper resources towards it and equipping officers to be able to deal with it effectively.

I don't care about their immigration status, as they are providing a service that is in demand, but I do care about them making a mockery of road/pavement safety stuff. That said, the delivery companies could easily put in counter-incentives via the apps they use, but I suspect they like stuff being delivered fast.

You can easily spot the drug dealers here, as they all use electric scooters and have satchels over their shoulders which aren't big enough for delivering more than one burger.
