Not here offten enough to argue
Is the extra cost of the 105 worth it?

i'm still torn between ordering the Felt z85 with 105 or the Cannondale Synapse with Tiagra

both cost the same amount, but cannondale has the better frame over the felt, but the felt has the better 105 groupset

Please help

You get the Tiagra and you will soon want the 105, get the 105 and you will soon want to upgrade that to Ultegra... that's a cyclist mindset for you

thats what i'm leaning towards smokey - is the cannondale synapse frame the same as the caad??
No it's not. I think the Synapse is a more relaxed geometry whereas the CAAD is out and out race geometry.

The Synapse is still a very highly rated frame though.

The synapse is a bit more relaxed geometry, riders of liquigas cannondale actually used the carbon version for the spring classics because the frame gave a better ride on the cobbles etc bacause of the "save" seat stays and fork.
With regards to tiagra , if its thenew 10 speed then your pretty much looking at trickle down from 105 anyway albeit with external cable routing for the shifters which according to reviews gives slightly better shifting as the cable line is not bent around the handlbars then taped down like 105 .

If i had the choice i would go for the cannondale, if you want to upgrade it later for a cleaner look you could just upgarde the shifters later.

ok - having checked out all the possible options - the frame, weight, components etc etc

i think i'm gonna stick with the original option which is the felt z85

reasons is the 105 v tiagra, vero v omega, 9kg v 10.18kg, carbon seatpost v alloy........and the fact i have already got lighter wheels to slip straight onto the bike with the same rear cassette

I have always been advised to buy the best frame you can afford or the frame you prefer the look of. If it's going to be a bike you keep for a while then all the other bits can be upgraded when you can afford to or they wear out.

Having said that, if you feel like the overall package on one is better value for money than the other then go with that.

Is the difference in weight based on the wheels etc which you are going to change .Where did you get the weight for the synapse? 10 .18 kg is a heavy bike ,a"basic" carrera virtuso comes in at 11 kg for an all alloy frame + fork with basic wheels and components .
