Specialized give a lifetime warranty on their frames. I don't think cube do, at least not on carbon

Best thing is to go ride on them. Or at least get the shop to stick them on a turbo

Bamboozling you with dozens of choices doesn't seem very good salespersonship. Did they ask you your requirements / preferences and not just budget?

Aesthetically the cube, the specialized looks utterly dull

I told them I was looking for an upgrade, listed what I currently had and what my budget was, so not really. I would agree that it wasn't the best sales pitch however he did at least list everything I could get from about £700 to £1500 so at least it wasn't a case of "you can get this for between £1400 and £1500, hand over the money".

They do also offer a full bike fitting for free, free re-fits for any time within the first 3 months and after that time they do a free full bicycle service.

I'd ask for a ride and see what you think. I think both will have a fairly aggressive set up? Can't recall if that's what you are seeking

I'm not planning on racing, it will essentially be a Sunday best which I would use for leisure (but still "serious") rides.

I did mention what my plans were when I spoke to the guy in the shop, but yes I think a test ride will be in order. At the moment however I am more looking at the specs and the advantages / disadvantages from that perspective.

2 year warranty only on carbon frames

http://www.cube.eu/en/service/faq/f...do-i-have-guarantee-warranty-on-my-cube-bike/

Would put me off a bit

Also, there was a recent post about failing seat post tube on a cube which was sorted I think, but didn't sound like a one off

http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/cube-warranty-process.147865/

Hopefully with the 2014 model these should of been sorted out, plus extensions on any frame breakages.

I don't know, I'm guessing you are swaying towards the Tarmac?

I would go for the cube.

Ultegra 6800, sub 8.0 kg and stunning looks.

Like the spesh, and great for the price, but for me the cube wins on all counts.

It's alright people saying you should buy this or you should buy that but you really should try them both out. One persons comfy ride is anothers uncomfy.

When I bought my first 'nice' bike I wanted a Trek, I tried one out alongside a Spesh. The Spesh won for me hands down.

Cube from 2012 would seem to offer 3yrs warranty on carbon, 6yrs on Alu ? Not exactly clear from that webpage. They do offer a crash replacement as well at i assume discount ? Anyway doesn`t seem long on the carbon and it would possibly put me off on that basis alone but still think the Cube offers far more for the cash.

Only seems to be the big manufacturers offering lifetime warranties, some of the even more expensive brands don`t offer anymore either?

I would agree, however it is obviously nice to know that I'm getting a decent bicycle (on paper) for the money.
