Hi,

I've not had to change the tyres on my road bike before. I'm curious as to what is a good general indicator that a tyre is worn? I have changed tyres on mountain bikes but they're significantly more obvious when a tyre is dead.

I bought my road bike second hand, so i'm not sure what my tyres looked like brand new. I gained a puncture yesterday on my rear wheel. So whilst i repaired it, i took the opportunity to take a good look at my tyres. They currently look like this -
Front - http://s195.photobucket.com/user/Shockerr87/library/Tyre - Kenda K191
Rear - http://s195.photobucket.com/user/Shockerr87/library/Tyre - Specialized Mondo

Having a quick Google, I think the tyres should look like this new.

Are both of my tyres worn? What ever your opinion is, why do you think so?

Thanks

Yep, I'd change them because they look worn out. You'll be more prone to getting punctures.

How many miles have you done on them?

As it says somewhere in the accounting manual...they are worn out from 'wear, tear and the effluxion of time'

I personally have put a little over 600 miles on them but like i said, the bike was second hand. So i have no idea how many miles the previous owner has put on them. Reading around, it seems that the mileage that someone can get out of a tyre varies quite a lot. Even from two people using the same tyres. Which is why i asked to see if there is any general indicators that a tyre is worn that can be applied to any road bike tyre.
