I was supposed to be out riding my new boardman today but halfrauds messed up and i got peed off, so got a refund. I`m now sat here putting together my new winter bike out of spare bits that i have, wondering if anyone else has got their winter bike out yet?

Or am i the only one getting ready for winter so early?

Everyone knows that carbon melts in the rain, so I use my winter bike quite a bit. I use it for the commute, so it is no hassle to get it out

I have mudguards permanently on my Basso (spare road bike) and I have a set on order for my cyclocross bike to 'winterise' it.

My CAAD5 road bike will go into hibernation shortly, certainly as soon as the roads are gritted for the first time in the coming winter, and probably before that as soon as this spell of mild weather comes to an end.

I am doing a 100 mile audax ride next weekend with a few other CycleChatters and it would be nice to do it on the CAAD5 but if the forecast is for bad weather, I will get the Basso back on the road for it.

That will be that for the best bike until I do my annual forum ride to Glasson Dock at the end of March, 2016.

I don't have a winter bike as such but I have two bikes I use for commuting. Since they're always ready to ride (mudguards & lights) they act as the winter bike for non- commute rides.

went out for a 70 miler today on my 'best' bike. The lanes were covered in mud and leaves and the bike looked like I'd been in a cyclocross event! It's going away until spring now after some tlc and the winter bike is coming out of hibernation.

I've only got one bike (at the moment ).
Just add a wee clip on mudguard at the back, check lights working and off we go, winter bike .
The bike is simple, it's me that requires major winter "pimping".
Thicker hat (under helmet), thicker gloves, fleece buff, 2 pairs of socks, overshoes, etc, etc.
By the time I get ready I'm too pooped to go anywhere .

I find its mainly just the hands and feet (I don't go out in winter rain). Got shoe covers last winter (absolutely brilliant), and had long windproof gloves just delivered (too warm for ski gloves).

I ride my main bike all year round but it's about this time of year that one day I regret not getting around to preparing the spare bike with the spiked tyres, so far no ice predicted so I'm leaving them off!

My geared bike went away after last Sundays ride, until sometime in March all rides will be on my fixed.

In between here and there
I bought some of the new Raceblade longs today. Downgraded the cassette and chain. Just got to choose some winter wheels and all set to go. All I do is wash it more, wet wipes at home and a hose at work. Weekends a degrease wash and polish. I have been looking at full mudguards disc braked bikes but they all seem either really boring or have head tube stacks like a block of flats.
