Rest up for three / four days before hand, As others have said if you can do 80 you will hardly notice the few extra at the end. The Manchester 100 is relatively easy in terms of there are no big hills. The buzz of the day will also carry you along. Enjoy it, its not as hard as you think.

Break the ride down into small chunks in your mind.

I did my first 100 a couple of months ago and it helped me to give myself targets to aim for on the ride. I convinced myself that the first 50 miles were just a warm up, and after that it was 3 commute distances to go.

I made the mistake of not drinking enough so, as others have said, make sure you keep hydrated.

I promise you though that it's really enjoyable, not much harder than 80 miles, and a massive buzz when you complete it

Thanks everyone!
I just want to be ready without worrying too much. I am looking forward to it really.
So, I'll go for a couple of short rides at the beginning of the week and then rest.
I have already been getting used to using the zero electrolyte tabs in my water bottles and I took some with me last week to add when I got my bottles refilled.
I've booked the bike in with Evans to replace the disc pads so there's time to bed them in. I should have done this sooner! Mr K looked at some videos and in our bike book but decided he wasn't sure how he could confidently adjust them correctly.
I ride in toe clips and shoes so I won't forget those.
It is a good idea to write a list of things to do the day before and things to do before I leave.
It's also a good idea to leave early. I'll be taking the front wheel off and putting the bike in the car, so I'll need time to make sure.
I should be alright riding with other people, I've done shorter organised rides before. I wish I'd had the wisdom of CycleChatters when I did the 50 miles for Sports Relief two and a half years ago. I didn't eat enough during or after the ride, although I made it round in reasonable time despite a p*******, it took me along time to recover afterwards.

Electrolyte tabs are worth a go because water, wonderful stuff that it is, doesn't contain any.

I'm no expert, but as far as I can gather they are most unlikely to upset your digestion.

It's only the gels and other rocket fuel stuff that can do that.

There's another potential 'gotcha' - make sure that you don't leave the front wheel at home when you leave in the morning, or in Wythenshawe Park after the ride! (I very nearly left my front wheel behind when a mate was driving me to a recent forum ride.)

It might be an idea to write a checklist a couple of days before the ride and use it to make sure that you don't forget anything. I always did that for my foreign cycling holidays. I was terrified that I would get to the airport without something important.

I should have replied on this thread sooner to thank you all for your great advice. I think I took heed of all of it and it was much appreciated. From getting everything ready the night before and a check list to resting leading up to the event and breaking the ride down mentally into shorter chunks all worked.
Having never forgotten the front wheel, I got a bit worried about that after Colin mentioned it and was quite chuffed to find it in the car when I arrived!
Report in the 'Your ride today'. Still feeling a bit giddy that I did it.

Ha ha. I'm still debating whether I'll be able to do the metric century a month challenge. Although I went out every weekend through the winter I didn't do more than a couple of hours before my hands and feet got too cold, so we'll see.
