Robert Marchand is a 102 year old Frenchman who still rides his bike and enters the Ardechoise sportive every year. He holds the Master world record ( cyclists over 100year old) over 100kms with an average speed of 23.305km/h.
For the record, the Ardechoise sportive attracted 13000 cyclists from all over the world in 2012 in different categories.
It is the first mass attraction for cylists in the world for mountain riding. It ranges from 1 to 4 days sportives with up to 24 climbs thrown in over 3 to 4 days.
The next one takes place mid June 2013, from 1 to 4 days.
