Hi

Have recently purchased a Triumph Traffic Master as a restoration project. Have started sanding the frame, in prep for a re-spray. Not sure wheather to keep the Traffic Master decal. The decal is in fair condition so could easily be masked. The only problem would be the background decal colour, will not match of the new frame colour - looking at spraying juice green or as close to the orignal.

I have found a website that supplies new Triumph decals - http://www.hlloydcycles.com/pdflistlatest.pdf this is an
Unfortuntly they do not provide the one in question. Have enquired about having a replacment produced but i'm looking at serious money! - £60+!

So do i save what I have I, or go with a new set of decals?

Welcome all thoughts / ideas

Take lots of photos from all angles and contact Gil on the Retrobikes forum. He makes good quality repro decals for members at sensible prices.

Well, my own resto prject, sanding down and paintstripping a steel road bike has gone very badly. Weeks of Nitromors and sanding got me to a point where I thought I had a good finish, but a layer of primer on and the flaws in the finish are revealed so... I am finally getting it shotblasted as I want a perfect finish.

Hi Rooster1,

looks like you spend a lot of time and effort to reach the stage your at now. I had to sand back a layer of poorly applied paint, orignial factory paint, then the primer. so far i haven't had too many problems sanding through this lot!

i did toy with the idea of getting it shot blasted, but i think this might be an expensive option. keep me posted wth your progress. be intrested to see how it turns out.

You'll still have to sand down the primer, try using Hi-Build primer or something similar.

Sorry but if you cannot manage the prep I am certain you will not get a decent finish. Blow torch and wire brush would have that old paint off in a flash.

I have learnt by experience that it is well worth taking your frame to the local car sprayer. They can blast the frame, spray it and clearcoat for not a lot of money. It can be the difference between doing the job and doing the job right.
