You'll know further up the A56, before Old Trafford, there's a fork off to the right to Talbot Road. I was in the right hand lane to fork off (I wish he would) and he couldn't wait so pulled over to my left to force me over and get in front. When he realised he wouldn't make it in time, he slammed on the brakes, pulled in behind and then to my right to force me over. I met him at the next lights. His window was down ready to have a right go at me. I stopped at the police station on Talbot Road and gave them what I thought was his reg. but it wasn't the right format so no luck. If it was the same nutter, did you get a reg number?

No, it was a white van at this time, the pass was within inches - there were a couple of others that were within arms reach though. I'll keep an eye out for that one, I ordered a cam this weekend, there are a couple of regular idiots in big new black cars on that stretch of road.

which crossing in Sale? I know the road very well.

Know it well-horrible section of road which i will avoid if on the bike.

I live 2 miles from there. On the 1 occasion I had to use the A56 in Sale to commute I say a guy get knocked off a bike. Can't you commute a different way? Some good alternatives around there which I happen to use some times?

It's not the worst section, but I'm a little protective of my right side as it's still healing. There isn't really an alternative route that is any safer, I'm out in Lymm and work near Ordsall Hall. I have a road racer, and crack along at some speed.

8th June I got a left hook (Manchester bound) here

12th May I got t-boned in the overtaking lane from someone coming out of a drive (Warrington bound) here

Those were the days when a keen courier on a trail bike could ride up the steps outside St Pancras Station to drop off a parcel - and ride down again when it was delivered.

Was I the only courier who always carried two letters in my top box, one addressed to each end of Oxford Street?

That way, when pulled over for riding on Oxford Street, I'd whip out the appropriate letter and say 'delivering'.

I'm a grown-up now, but I wasn't then.

Ok, So your saying they have a right to walk across a road while on the phone for example? My point is Pedestrians do careless things too on the road but they dont get a penalty for it?

sadly he has a point, not that you weren't perfectly safe to act as you did but that it just reinforces others perceptions of cyclists. Barring other cyclists none of the witnesses will have analysed the situation as you did, they'll just have seen a cyclist and a red light.

I agree, sadly a lot of cyclists don't stop and think about how their actions are going to reflect on cycling as a whole. I also agree that "most" motorists are just going to see another "scofflaw" cyclist running a red light and that as soon as they get home that they'll be calling up their representative/MP to get more restrictive laws passed "controlling" where those "scofflaw" cyclists can and cannot ride their bikes. And the really sad thing is that a lot of those "scofflaw" cyclists are ignorant of the fact that they're doing anything wrong, also in a lot of cases they've learned their bad habits from others who ride bikes the same way.

Which is why a lot of us at another web site that I go to advocate bringing bicycle education back into the schools. As well as (at least on this side of the pond) making drivers ed more than the joke that it is.

Go through carrington, onto mile road through Urmston, then through trafford park past Kelloggs.
