I cycle there quite often, along the canal. It's about 4.5 miles from where I live
It was that sunny we could laze on the grass for hours, and even the ice cream kiosk was open.

I've stayed in Falkirk a few times for work, usually at The Park. When it's a holiday it's a Travel Inn on the edge of town though.

Very occasional diver here. Completed what PADI laughingly calls 'Advanced' open water, but am definitely a fair weather diver - Red Sea yes, freezing cold British waters no. :-)

yebutt.. "freezing UK waters" - remember no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. Get a drysuit mate, and job's a good-un.
None of this PADI-style follow the guide lark either - just you and your buddy - much easier than working out which of 8 people is supposed to be your buddy, and wondering how far still to go. UK style You just bimble about with your mate, then when the air's reaching your turn about point (or your deco is as much as you are wanting to do) then straight up you come (slowly with stops as required of course)

But seriously UK diving is fantastic (mostly)

Perhaps I'll see if I can book some drysuit training next holiday ...

what is this drysuit training whereof you speak?

Joking aside it isn't silly being trained by someone, though I didn't bother. Perhaps the weight check is the most important part and is easier with an instructor. Nearly everyone has too much lead at first.

1) do a proper weight check
2) open drysuit valve completely
3) empty BCD completely
4)
Use drysuit only on the dive (possibly closing valve one or two clicks)
5) roll slightly to let air out of valve.
6) be able to unclip drysuit hose if it sticks open !
7) be able to pull the neck open if it runs away with you - best avoided.
8) if inverted there is a forward roll technique to get you out of it.

That'll be £100 please !

* point 4 is slightly controversial, since some folk use BCD and just take off the squeeze with the suit - this does make sense with lots of cylinders, but with only 1 (or 2) cylinders it's easier just to worry about the suit - at least arguably. Learn the suit only method anyway, then decide which works best for you - but avoid the "bit of both" method.
