I had a message from a +212 number yesterday. Mine was telling me that my card details had been added to Robert’s iPhone wallet. Don’t think so

Some clown this afternoon on my work landline calling about the property I own

I get calls 2 or 3 times a week - varies for a while down to 1 a week - then back up

It is from "Bank Security" - I have tried telling them to stop ringing but they take no notice
normally I just hang up now

some years ago I was unemployed and then just working term times for a while
I started trying to keep them talking for as long as possible
my record was 47 minutes
and yes - I did keep a note of the times


but anyway - I noticed that the number of calls just got higher and higher
the more I pissed them off the more calls I got
and from totally different scam concept
some bank ones
some "virus on you computer" ones
etc etc
but increasing in number week by week


eventually I started to wonder if they have a concept of
"if he deliberately leads me on and wastes my time - I'll put his number on a list of possible good targets which we then sell on"


It was the only reasons could see for the number of calls to increase
so I just started hanging up and speaking as little as possible
afetr a few months the number of calls had halved and over time it dropped to normal levels

It was a survey based on a sample size of one and a theory based of a hunch and no more evidence than that
but it worked for me - for some reason where my theory might or might not have been relevant

It isn't so much that youare wasting their time, it is just the fact you are answering and engaging with them at all, which makes yours a "live" number.

Once you've had your fun winding them up set your phone to block all unknown numbers for 6 months.

That's the problem with the NHS, they either show as number withheld or an anonymous mobile

If you tell them theyll let you know the number they'll be contacting you from. Been there witn this.
