I follow the line, riding along a track that I've pre-prepared and if I use routing I have it on point to point between key points that I've chosen. I only use autoroute when I've already got myself lost.

I'm on a non tw@nav aided ride today. I've taken the (theoretically speaking) most rubbish bike in the fleet. In these conditions, it's proving to be the best of the fleet. Good old cheapie Btwin riverside cross trekker.^_^

I only use the Garmin's when riding a pre-planned route and I love them for that (provided I've planned it correctly!). On the occasion I have used it as an A-to-B sat nav, I have been led down side roads, dirt tracks and one ways, occasionally with several people I'm supposed to be leading in tow.
Not good but thoroughly recommended (for the former, not the latter!)
