There's a pub near the bus stop we use to get out of manchester and they serve tripe in an african style. Not sure I'll ever try it though.

I like liver and remember the occasional macaroni discovery. I'm with Paulus on the bacon thing.

There's no need to adulterate the liver with bacon.

My grandfather used to eat tripe - it stank. I can not bear the thought of eating it.

I'm a huge fan of lambs' liver fried in butter with a bit of garlic. Did you know that North Americans have a serious problem with offal? I mentioned to one that I really like kidneys and his eyes popped out....

"Do you know what they do???????????????????????" he said.

Fabulous.

Yes, I like lamb's liver dusted in flour then fried in butter. It's best served pink.

Lambs liver or ox liver are both great in their own ways.

My favourite way of serving them is on a bed of peas, carrot and noodles

There is a trade in smuggling Haggis into the USA from Canada as well. All offal is banned in the US as far as I remember.

Just offer them a steak and kidney pie next time they are over

Funnily enough, steak and kidney pie was the main topic of conversation in an aeromodeling forum that I'd just visited and our transpondian friends are aghast at thenotion that we'd each such an abomination.

My return to pie making after a thirty year gap was with a steak and kidney pie and I surprised myself with its brilliance.

I don't think haggis is illegal anymore.

I think that offal from the UK is still banned (Wikipedia quote)

Haggis may not be imported into the USA from the UK since the BSE crisis of 1989. This is due to haggis' offal ingredients such as sheep lungs. The British Food Standards Agency disputes these concerns, and states that there is no reason for the import of haggis to be restricted.[sup][17][/sup] In 2010 a spokeswoman for the US Department of Agriculture stated that they were reviewing the ban on beef and lamb products but no time frame was set.[sup][18][/sup]

I just love the idea of a few sluggish American tripes being livened up a bit by some pieces of imported UK offal.

Like John Prescott running for senate - that sort of thing Martin?
This thread has made me feel squeamish. Luckily human livers and kidneys are not under discussion...yet. I guess eating them would give you a dose of EPO in the first instance, and would serious drinker's liver be pre-marinaded? So many wquestions... :headshake:

I sometimes cook some up for the dog... but eat half of it myself before the dog gets a look in (we don't share the same bowl, by the way)

I love liver and tripe. I used to give it to the children but they confessed years later that they loathed it and gave it to the dog when I wasn't looking.

Now I eat liver at great expense when it is on the menu at our favourite restaurant.

I had liver in an Indian restaurant last weekend. It was a starter and was the first time that i'd ever eaten liver in a restaurant. It was wonderful.

There is was a liver and kidney curry served up at a Shababs in Leeds but I'd never been able to bring myself to buy it knowing how cheap the ingredients were. I've just checked the online menu and it seems to have disappeared. However I've found a liver and kidney curry recipe online. It claims to be a 20 minute recipe. I'll investigate it next week. I'm livered out this week. Three nights in a row - need a change.
