No, some are. One I remember recently had lies in it which after being queried the op admitted.

Was that the one where you'd suggested that you weren't a complete tosser?

I don't understand why people resort to aggressive posts on sensible threads. OK, if OP starts dishing out insults and tarring certain groups with the same negative brush, then yes expect some backlash, but merely asking for opinions and experiences is sort of what a forum is all about. A forum is a school playground though, and there will always be a group of chavvy kids in the corner who want to spoil a thread and pick holes in other people's lives for the fun of it (and I dare say because their own lives are also lacking)

A lot of people on here are passionate about cycling. The Internet can be anonymous so there's plenty of exaggerating, lying etc. Most is neither here nor there. You cycle 20 miles in 45 minutes? Good luck.

However, when it's a rant about cyclists and there's lies or exaggerations it can be damaging. There's plenty of anti-cycling attitudes out there. Sadly some of it turns into actual danger or harm. Enough stories on here to demonstrate it isn't a rarity. When you get a post that is untrue or ill informed it does need pulling up on.

Sometimes people simply don't know why , for example, cyclists ride primary or side by side. Fine but it will be explained. If it is constantly being argued that I should do something which compromises my safety because they either don't care or don't understand I will debate it and point out any inconsistencies, hypocrisy or lies in their argument.

Who could be more important than a cyclist?!?
Nobody is more important than anyone else. There are those that are more vulnerable and their safety trumps the others' convenience.

I agree with the OP. I've noticed it too.

The bottom line is that with the wonders of the internet comes relative anonymity; when someone isn't directly opposite someone they become much "braver" to criticize. My golden rule with posting has always been to try to think that if I wouldn't say it to someone's face directly, then I shouldn't post it.

I think it's certainly much easier to be critical when you are an unknown user miles away -I also think (just my personal opinion mind you) that some people criticize to make themselves feel a bit better and more important about themselves while polishing their ego. I think it's just part and parcel of human nature and the internet can magnify these things.

Having said that and knowing it, when you post on any board, you have to be prepared for such things, and develop, well, a thicker skin.

Who could be more important than a cyclist?!

You know comments like that don't help. Chavvy always refers to the working class. I think you will find its not just them. Maybe a majority may actually be of a different class?
I always thought it was the non-working class who know how to play the sytstem, so they have their large screen TVs and fake designer clothes.

There are too many threads started where the OP starts to take a verbal beating, I try to avoid them threads because it winds me up!
