Hi all,

I am looking for a new toothpaste and am hopeful that the hive mind can help...

The background here is that
  • I have used Colgate Total (just the normal one) since I married my wife in 2004.
  • I am probably classed as neurodiverse. I'm very happy with the same toothpaste day in day out.
  • I loathe mint. I have managed to acclimate myself to the mint flavour of Colgate Total which is mint but not too strong.
  • THOSE *%$£%^&$&^£^S AT COLGATE CHANGED THE (*&^%&*^%*& RECIPE
Yes. My trusty toothpaste is now "even fresher". Translation "we have changed the flavour and it now tastes UTTERLY FOUL IF YOU DON'T LIKE MINT.

So - the quest. I need to find a toothpaste acceptable to the modern world of health and hygiene (so Punch and Judy Strawberry for kids is out) as defined by the love of my life, and which has the mildest possible mint flavour.

I consulted with the greatest AI minds on our planet and they suggested Oral B. I am trying this and to be honest, it's better than "new fresher colgate total" but not by much. It's just within tolerable range but it has a tendency to be gritty.

So - what would you all recommend? What should I try next in my quest?
Does anyone else loathe mint or is it just me?

Colgate Herbal.

May need to buy it online though, but check your local pharmacy.

I am 79 in a few weeks time and I have used SR, Colgate and Oral B on my toothbrush. More importantly I brush my teeth twice a day with a soft toothbrush and use T-pee interdental brushes. I see my dentist regularly twice a year (today in fact) I have most of my teeth no wisdom teeth though.
It doesn’t really matter which toothpaste you use it’s the regular two minutes clean and your visit to your dentist that matter.

I have lichen planus so freshmint toothpaste tastes too strong. I use children's mild mint toothpaste (I check that it has the same amount of fluoride as adult toothpaste) and find that okay and the bonus is that it's usually quite cheap.

My dentist suggested toothpaste without SLS since it foams less. Oral-B Junior fits the bill in respect of SLS and fluoride.

Oralieve is a brand that is SLS-free and they do an 'ultra-mild' version. It's not cheap.

HTH and good luck in your search.

Our neurodivergent kids couldn't tolerate mint toothpaste so we've tried a few and settled on hismile. It comes in a zillion different flavours although I'm not sure about a milder mint, we've got cinnamon donut on the go right now. It's proper fluoride paste, not like some of the "natural" ones we've tried, and isn't all cutesy and childish so it won't look out of place in your bathroom. Well they do a Barbie themed one but they're not all pink and cutesy.

It ain't cheap but that's the autism tax for you.

The toothpaste is completely pointless once you are in adulthood apparently. Anyhoo - not the point, my wife will require me to use toothpaste. I just need one that is tolerable - i.e. not very minty.

Have you tried the following:

a) euthymol - as noted above by a few. It is seriously non-minty, very much an acquired taste!
b) your local health store. Most will have non-minty alternatives.
c) asking your dental hygienist about non-mint options.

Plenty of choice!
