My eldest daughter's name turned out to be a word used as an ethnic slur for a Jewish person.

Those chav style names do my head in - Kylie and Chelsea come to mind. When I hear them they make me cringe.

And, as for kids with difficult names to spell or pronounce. That curse will remain with them for the rest of their lives - "can you spell that for me please"? The effect will soon wear off I can tell you.

I was given the boring name of Stephen - easy enough you would think, but I still get "is that with a 'p' or an 'h' ?"

Is does my head in that much that I now I tell everyone my name is Steve.

Sorted.

Blokes dubbed 'Vivian' or 'Hilary' or 'Shirley' .... sympathies all round! It took me until I was grown up, before I sussed what gender Evelyn Waugh was...

We named our kids Joseph and Samuel (now grown up teenagers called "Joe" and "Sam")

When they were babies an old lady said "Oh, what lovely biblical names"

I chuckled to myself because I didn't go to church and the pair of them were little g*ts when they were small.

Come to think of it - they still are !!!

I'm David, fairly normal name really.

Our kids are, if and when we have them (plenty of time yet) going to be;

Girls:
Elizabeth (Lizzy)
Georgiana (probably will be known as Georgie for short)

Boys are likely to be:
Samuel (sam)

yeh, thats as far as we've got name wise!

A family I knew called their son Stephen and persistently corrected the lad's friends' who called him Steve. @His name is Stephen', they'd chant. In retaliation they all called him St'

My Father's brother was called Arnold, a name he hated as a boy and man. So I got a middle name in case I hated my first name. I didn't but have a reserve name if i ever needed it. My son and his partner have called my first Grandson Oscar. It took some getting used to but now (He's seven months.) I think it suits him. Unfortunately they've resolutely refused to give Oscar an alternative.
