From experience of my commute, here's a top ten of the vehicles that cause those sphincter-puckering moments.
  1. HGVs.especially foreign left-hand drive who think they can get closer to you because they can see you for longer.
  2. BMWs... (Especially black). Do selfish, aggressive drivers buy BMWs or do BMWs turn you into a selfish, aggressive driver?
  3. Audi & Merc. (BMW lite).
  4. White Van man. Aggressive & using Mobile phone.
  5. Taxis.
  6. Buses.
  7. Bin Wagons. The Martini of HGVs...they stop "any time, any place, any where".
  8. Any driver whose stereo can be heard from 200 m away.
  9. Chelsea Tractors. Any footpath, cycle lane, junction or crossing is a legit parking space... Heaven forbid that Tristram & Jocasta should walk 10 metres to school. And then there's the random door opening!
  10. Tractors... Especially Fast-Tracks... The BMW of agricultural equipment.

You have a thing about BMW's don't you? LOL
I promise to give you an extra wide berth if you put a sign on the back with your CC name ;-)

It's the drivers not the vehicles that are dangerous. I've had more scary moments with old ladies in Nissan micras than men in Beemers.

It is the drivers who are th edanger of course, however it seems to me that a certain type of person choses to drive a certain type of car for the most part, and it often results in that vehicle being seen as badly driven as per OP post.

I agree with above list on most points although I've never had an issue with a farm tractor.

Top of my list is bad HGV drivers as well, they are murderous at times.
Then bad WVM & City run around Citroen 20 something girly
followed closely by small penis massive stereo man
..and school run mum in her ridiculous 4x4

I have zero respect for these types (other than staying safe) as they continuously disrespect me and my life. There are some sensible drivers in these vehicles it has to be said but for the mostpart they are driven by inconsiderate morons.

I have to agree with that one. And with apologies to those (seemingly relatively rare) male drivers who drive black BMWs who are responsible, I've seen and had incidents with just far too many black BMWs. In the past year or so I've had 3 black BMWs (different model years, different drivers, all male, usually middle aged or slightly older) pull selfish stupid stunts on me while cycliing. In terms of experiencing or seeing poor driving, black BMWs driven by men are inordinately represented in my experience.

I'll also add to the list middle aged women obsessed with smart phones in minivans/people carriers. I've seen quite a few who are texting/yapping away who are completely oblivious.Concentrating on driving is just way down the list of priorities.

I drive a Chelsea tractor. My kids have normal names I respect cycle lanes, and regularly advise drivers of whom I am a passenger that the ASL is for cyclists, and the differences between solid & dotted lines defining cycle paths. I normal park further from the shops as the walk is good for me (and the kids). I leave acres of space when passing cyclists. Oh, I also know how wide my car is, something that seems to be a real issue for many drivers, male & female alike in no specific vehicle.
Bottom line is there are good and bad drivers in all vehicle types. I have had some poor experiences with all types, and some excellent from those whom you least expect it from.
Please don't tar all with the same brush...

There isn't a car or driver that scares me, I rarely have incidents, when I first came back to cycling, over thirty years ago, after a break I would have the occasional incident but they've got rarer as time has passed.

From experience, I do a points system of danger signs when assessing a potential numpty driver. 2 points= probably, 3 or above definitely. The danger signs are:
1. Prestiege German brand
2. Executive saloon
3. 4x4 (or pretends to be one)
4. Personalised registration plate
5. Blacked out windows
6. Wears a hat (you don't need to wear a hat in a car - your head doesn't get cold)
7. Too big to fit into a standard sized parking bay
8. Taxi or private hire
9. Has a modification or defect to their car that is illegal or would fail the MOT (2 points).

So a footballer's car like and Audi Q7 with personalised plates and blacked out windows will get 5 points. Of course the list is subject to change......
