The searches failed to locate any information relevant to your request,
therefore, the information you have requested is not held by the MPS.

Although they did have to get a little kick in at the end:

It is not an offence to wear personal audio devices on cycles so the
police would not enforce against it and therefore not record statistics
We however would state that the highway code clearly states that cyclists
should be aware of traffic coming up behind them, this will be difficult
if you do not either constantly look behind you and or listen carefully
the highway code also says in general rules and advice that riders should
not use mobile technology and points out the distraction caused.
Our view is with the Mayor that all cyclists should follow the highway
code which has been put together by years of collision research and is
intended to keep all road users as safe as possible.

As gaz said - it's a useless figure. Like the data on accidents that haven't happened because the rider was wearing something bright or had a decent light on and was seen - there is non. Nobody compiles a list of accidents that don't happen.

After the recent fatalities Boris could have cited poor driving, speeding, chatting on a mobile, whatever. He chose to refer to the "absolute scourge" of cyclists using earphones. Too late now, but a lot of people are now under the impression that risky behaviour by cyclists is a significant causal factor. It isn't. Boris threw a curveball.

In your opinion it isn't. Your FOI request shines no light at all on the matter

nope, risky behaviour by cyclists is a factor in less than 6% of accidents. Of all the possible causal factors in RTCs for Boris to focus on, he chose the one for which there isn't a shred of evidence.

I agree with you. However, a FOI request for a statistic which can't be produced doesn't prove anything.

Our RTC reports make us fill in a section where you put in factors that caused the accident, grading them from' Very likely' to 'Possible'

A more interesting FOI request would be to ask what the top three factors were recorded as in cyclist deaths - assuming all forces record in a similar manner.
