Just wondering if anyone has entered the Tough Guy Race before? I've been looking at the website and it looks like fun, the only thing which bothers me is the price. £140 is steep, is it worth it? Has anyone else considered running it?

For people who don't know what it is, it's a 8 mile run, cross country in January/February. Involving loads of obstacles, and lots of ice cold lakes and streams to navigate. There's fire, barbed wire and electric shocks thrown in for good measure , along the way.

You'd pay £140 to torture yourself?
Visit the Bigg Market on Saturday night in Newcastle.... cost you the same [in drink], you'll have a similar experience but have more fun! ...especially if you get picked up by the Police during the evening's festivities....

Wasn't there a programme about that race ?

Brutal but some how appealing.

If you can't manage the £140 entry fee , I'll be happy to prod you with a cattle prod, flick lighted matches at you, rip your skin open with needles, push you down a hill and throw freezing water over you, whilst you run on a treadmill all for the very reasonable price of £50.

Thats a very kind offer L.E.D, i shall consider it, sounds like a bargain

I don't see it as torture, it looks great fun, right up my street! Though a part of me wonders if it's worth the money instead of just entering a fell race instead?

I know women that would pay you a fraction of that amount to inflict real pain!

Thats a good insight, cheers Maggot. The grizzily is quite long though, and as I've not ran in a while I would need to do a bit of training, whereas the Tough Guy is only 8 miles, and I'm confident I could run the opening 10k in 35 minutes to get away from the rest of the field, without much training. The price is very steep though, so may have to go for distance. I've been a right wimp lately and stopped running whilst swimming, i've never attempted a 50 mile run event, so that could be an option, will have to be cross country though as my legs won't take the road for that distance.

Haha say no more.

In truth though, I enjoy going through pain, and challenging myself, so long as it's healthy.

I was put off by the title.... thinking it would be a load of macho cobblers, but it actually looks like a lot of fun!!
Mind you, there's lasses doing it if you look at the vids on the website, so it can't be that hard

Velvet- That looks a bit easy though, doesn't it??

User- The parking charges have not crossed my mind, are they high?

Think I may just enter a fell race, or commit and enter a 50 miler, big commitment though considering the training.

I wouldn't do it. It's too expensive and so crowded you'd spend your time queuing at the obstacles. Do the bog-snorkling triathlon if it's still going. It's not too expensive or crowded and just as bl**dy hard.

Yeh I probably won't do it, though I don't see the queuing as a problem, as there's a 6 mile run before you reach any obstacle. I'd finish that in around about 35 minutes, so would be confident of finishing ahead of 95% of the field.
