I said yesterday Arensman looked like he could win a stage. Great ride by him today but his inconsistency must be frustrating for the team.

I was surprised the TNT lot were so adamant Pog would go after the stage. Surely even he realises that stopping breaks getting a win will go against him in the end. The only way it was kicking off was a Jonas attack (as it did briefly) and in the end Pog got to assert his authority in the final 100m without alienating other teams.

It’s interesting how things turn around in a few days too. All the talk in the first week was of UAE’s team looking under pressure whereas today Narvaez outlasted all the VLAB support, Yates was there most of the way and Soler / Sivakov put in big stints. Happy to see Campenaerts doing so well though.

No wonder when you know there isn’t any tactic to compete with UAE. It’s a fight for 2nd place. Even Lance had off days loaded with EPO & steroids. Poggi won’t even have one bad day or sweat.

I was surprised there was so much chat about him taking the stage. It seemed obvious to me they were keen to bag a stage win when they could.

Hard to say if Visma played it right the first week....did they overcook themselves ? I'm not sure I probably think they did the right thing giving a go.To be honest I dont think it would of been a whole lot different as UAE/Pog as a team are in stellar form !

On the other hand, there is still a week to go where something could go very wrong for Pog. Unlikely, but possible.
Race for 3rd spot is where it’s at.

That was an impressive ride by Ben Healy, coming in 7th on that stage alongside Roglic and moving back into the top 10.
