Can't think of a more unlikely stage winner than WVA - in almost 3 weeks he's done a couple of 500m uphill sprints which came to nothing.

I mean that's enough to get David Millar wetting his pants - but a pretty anonymous tour from WVA .....or the mighty wout van aert as everyone seems to call him

Fair, but I'm not sure who else from Visma is likely to nab a stage at this point. Benoot maybe a better bet for Saturday.

What a different stage it could have been had that very early attack by Jonas got a gap. I think he genuinely wanted to go all in but ultimately didn't have the legs to do it and I don't see that changing overnight.

Yeah, seems like the hope was to drop him on the Madeleine and go very long, but I'd have thought they'd have had a better worked plan b there.

Jonas has to go on the Col du Pre if he is to have any chance. I have no idea what most of that climb looks like as visibility was down to 50 m for most of it when I did it last summer!
The climbing other than the Col du Pre is a bit easier tomorrow than it was today, but who recovers best overnight tonight will be a factor.

I don't think Visma could have done any more....they tried the first week and people said it was the wrong strategy....can't say they haven't took the race to UAE and Pog just that he's been stronger.Vingo said today's stage was one of the hardest he's ever rode...he's had two bad days and Wout and Jorgenson haven't really lived up to expectations, seems Pogs just been stronger,I haven't seen one bit of weakness in Pog myself.
Even more odd is he's seemed to actually ride tactically...surprised he didn't go for the stage on Ventoux and today...riding clever I'm shocked 😁

I agree what we are seeing is Pog 2.0 - much more calculating than Pog 1.0
