Ayuso reminds me of Olano from back in the day. Promised much but always fell apart when it mattered.

I think it's fair to say he's had a rough season - won Volta ao Algarve then crashed out of Paris-Nice in the leaders jersey, stomach bug in forced a bad few days and abandon in Itzulia Basque, got third in the It's Not The Dauphine Its a Very Naught Cotes du Rhone.

He's also still only 23 of course, though we seem to have got used to that being mid-career now rather than still eligible for the youth jersey

Arensman, now on the Pogi train, has been down at some point

Has Skjelmose been seen on the front? I thought he was where he was because he managed to hang on a bit longer than those behind him, not because he'd been out the front doing things.

There's a difference to hanging on to a GC in a world that includes Pog, Remco etc and being in a trio on the Alpe that's being hunted by The Ogre and not putting in a shift. Let's face it, nobody is actually attacking Pogacar and I've seen very little of any podium race action (Remco yesterday - anyone else? Del Toro getting a luxury tow on multiple stages)

He's mainly in the GC as he was there to help Ayuso (and has done) and because he was third in the ITT behind Remco and Pogacar. He's done a bit of work for Mads P as well.

Olano didn't have a terrible career. Won a Worlds and a Vuelta. Podium'd in a few GTs. He never really challenged at the Tour though and certainly never fulfilled the "next Indurain" hope. Ayuso was billed as the next big thing and I just don't think he'll be that.
