Bizarre fact, I had him confused with one shoed relay legend Brian Whittle until, even more bizarrely, my wife started working with Brian's wife, who I was at school with 160 miles away 40 years ago.

I know Richard Williams and Will Fotheringham are getting on a bit and may consider themselves too old for this lark, but could they not find someone who potentially actually likes the sport to write about it?

Even more bizarrely, I once borrowed a tent from Brian Whittle's wife's brother, got shot at, which ended in me having to buy the tent from him.
38 years later, I got the tent down from the loft to use on a bikepacking trip, checked it was waterproof with a hose, only to find on the first night of my trip that it leaked like a sieve through the bathtub.

Probably the best place to put this, but Mauro Schmid is quietly having a good season and is up to 7th in the PCS ranking for this year

Whilst undeniably a poor set of results, I think his role has now changed to more of a road captain, passing on his experience to his younger colleagues

I wonder how 89 would have gone if Delgado had a better alarm clock? Without that prologue balls up, he'd have been 40 seconds behind. It would almost certainly have changed the race.
