Still hot, but it’s slightly cooler today. Back to the oven on Thursday’s visit to the Tourmalet.

Nobody mentioning the W word yet: Walkowiak?

An 8 minute lead does seem overly generous for somone who was Top 10 in the Vuelta last year (again with a kind breakaway helping him)

But then you get the feeling Pogi could take 2 minutes out of anyone whenever he feels like it. It might even keep him motivated for longer rather than last year's race being sewn up by Stage 12, leaving a week and a half to get bored

He was almost 10 mins down having gained 3 mins on Stage 6.

But interestingly he didn't ship huge amounts of time on MTFs in the last week of the Vuelta

I think the thinking from UAE's point of view is that, if needed, Pog can attack on the Galibier on the penultimate stage and finish aeons ahead of Traeen

You mean attack on the Croix de Fer, then build his advantage up the telegraphe and Galibier, and confirm the win on the Sarenne

In the meantime, if the likes of Remco want a podium or better their teams will need to also do some work.

Pog and Jonas are one thing, but you have to wonder about the undercard though. They are probably going to find taking even more time back from Traeen a difficult bridge to cross.
One of them could miss out on a potential top 5 as a result.
