Olaf not being Kooij

I watched via the full stage on HBO using the ‘key moments’ function. It went km0, Jonas puncture, interview with Binny, intermediate sprint, Cat 3 climb and then it was in the final 40km with just a brief attack and the crash before the finish

Any chance of a Pidcock attack down the Tourmalet tomorrow? Appreciate he has to get over it with the top riders to make it worthwhile. I thought he’d have been up there on Stages 2 and 3 but was barely noticeable albeit didn’t lose much time.

Hmmmm....

Finishing on this after the brutality of the Tourmalet seems strange. It's a leg-sapper just for distance, but it's not really got anything to attack on

The irony is that the real climb starts where the Tour stage finishes.
It goes on for another 10kms at an average of 8.2%.
Hard to see how there can be much GC
Action on those feeble gradients.
It has to be on the Tourmalet or nowhere.

Hard to see how to get much GC action out of it, but also hard to see how a breakaway could stay away given the speed the peloton will cover it - there will be huge benefits from drafting

Maybe the hope is that finish will encourage an attack on the Tourmalet

Even I managed that in +30s heat a couple of weeks ago. I honestly didn’t realise I was climbing much until the return.
Col de Tentes (camping interdit) beyond the finish line was much more fun, but maybe not enough space at the summit for a finish.
