Has the Col d'Aspin always been a Cat 1 in the Tour, or is it just because it's early in the stage? I get that it's not the Tourmalet, but it's still got a a near mythical ring to it. I guess it's only ridden pre-Tourmalet anyway

It's always been Cat 1 as it's "relatively easy"

It is on the borderline though, so for example if it was later in the stage it might be an HC
