The area has a red heat warning so presumably it's partly to do with the emergency services being able to cover the local population still

How are they negotiating the host town issues? Hopefully there's not a huge neutralised zone.

It’s certainly going to be very hot at the start town, if not quite so hot at the finish.
Cooler for tomorrow’s rest day, but Tuesday is again very hot.
After a few cooler days, the heatwave could well return for the final week.

I haven't looked at the map but maybe it's possible that the sections that they've cut are the ones with highest risk of fire.

They're just snipping off a bit of a loop at the start and rejoining the route further up.

Rather than going south from the start and lopping back round, they're going due east to pick up the original route further along
