HC only gives points to the first 8 riders, Cat 1 to 6, so they should be fine for Galibier unless things go pear shaped. Sarenne is anyone's guess but if Carapaz gets Galibier it doesn't matter

Someone elsewhere described him as the scorpion in the parable of the scorpion and the frog crossing the river (the frog agrees to help the scorpion over, as it wouldn't sting him mid-river because that would drown them both. The scorpion stings the frog mid river and while they're both drowning the frogs asks why? - "It's in my nature")

To be fair to UAE (and I obviously hate that) they've been able to play it very well at letting someone up the road that other teams will work to pull back

Our mountain trip last week was 760 kms in 6 days, 30 hours 45 minutes ride time for me, but stops on top. Crossed the Petit St Bernard, up the Nivolet, over the Mont Cenis, up and down the Telegraphe / Galibier combo, and up the Madeleine the way the TdF Femmes went last year (brutal climb). Regulary high 30s in the valley, and was 36 degrees on the Madeleine.

I also know someone who regularly does Le Loop for charity, riding 7 stages most years, but he has done the full 21 a few times (incl last year). The do it 7 days ahead of the tour. We saw them on the Telegraphe last week
