I work in one of the Cambridge colleges along the route of the TdF and all non essential staff have been given a free day off.

This includes me!

So I'll park my best bike in my secure garage, pick up my SLR camera from my office and wander over to the team area for a few hours and get some pictures. Then I'll wander back to college, get an upstairs window seat, wave at the riders, take a few pics, then spend the rest of the gloriously sunny, windless day going for a ride.

The essential staff are catering, porters and housekeeping, the college will have summer school kids in. These staff get an extra day off when they want one.

They won't wave back. Bunch of arrogant nobbers.

(Seriously though, sounds like a lovely way to spend the day.)

Let's hope that this lady doesn't come out to watch the race: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Cam...mbridgeshire-Guided-Busway-20131111055250.htm

Our department is also closing, so I now won't feel guilty about not going into work!

Why does anyone employ non essential, no wonder fees are so expensive.

I'm only non essential in the fact that my job doesn't involve feeding or cleaning up after monkeys!
The summer students are the college cash cow, they make good money from them. They are usually a complete pain in the arse, especially for the cleaners!

The profit goes some way to footing the fellows wine consumption.....
