Everyones plan went to pot stage 1

Yeah but Tao seems to be keeping everything very low key - on top of the run of bad luck

I still think he like many lost their chance of the overall after the opening stage but a good win yesterday and I fancy him to back it up by winning again today.

Yeah . I think a lot of riders may regret not keeping him out of range of the podium by not working . They had him at 38 secs . Let it go to a min in last 5k .

It depends on your viewpoint – it seems to be going very well to plan for the top 6 and their teams. Especially for Gregoire and Alaphilippe and their respective teams. I'd never have guessed Alaphilippe to be so well placed.

If you'd made a list of the main contenders before the race began, it probably would have included 6 or 7 of the current GC top 10, just you'd have expected Almeida, Gall and Onley to be ahead of Gregoire, Vauquelin, O'Connor, and Castillo.

Only Geogehan-Hart, Vlasov and (especially) Powless are much farther back than you'd have anticipated.

Maybe that's the level he's at currently?

Yeah, I think so, it was more that I've not seen any recent interviews about what his goals are for this year/next year, what he sees his role as etc. It's difficult to know if he's succeeding if we don't know what he's trying. Is he riding as a domestique for e.g. Skjelmose (not this race obv), is he stage hunting? Is he actually riding GC but not quite making it?
