Tracking my ride

Hi all

I have been using Strava and its Beacon feature for a while
The Beacon- for those that do not know - means that when I go out my wife can see where I am and where I have been
which means that if I come off and need help she know where to send an ambulance when I have not turned up in time to cook her tea

But Strava has been more and more of a pain recently - especially with Beacon not working properly unless I restart it several times
and recently several rides had long straight line where it has lost GPS (or whatever) after I take a photo - or sometimes just because

I do not mean something that will tell me where to go
I tend to decide as I go - I don;t want something where I can plan it first and it gives me directions

I also don;t want something that just says where I am now - Google Maps will do that

So we need something that will track my ride when I tell it to start and keep a track of where I have gone until I tell it to stop when I get home
AND - importantly - another authorised person can see it while I am out from her phone wherever she is.

I was wondering if anyone knows of anything - other than Strava/beacon

A phone tracking app? Apparently you just need to enter the number and the person tracking can see where the phone is on a map. As a person who turns off my location on my phone, I obviously have no experience of this scenario or any recommendations, but somebody out there will.

I've previously used Followmee - https://www.followmee.com/ - which is now an app rather than a web page. That was helpful and others could see me when I started it.

There are all sorts of things you can do this with. You can set up Google maps so that someone else has visibility of your location. You can share your location with a group in WhatsApp. There are dedicated apps for this like Glympse. Garmin GPSs (at least, some of them) have a live tracking feature, as do Wahoos.

If you use WhatsApp you can share your location for a fixed period to other WhatsApp users.

If you use WhatsApp you can share your location for a fixed period to other WhatsApp users.

As far as I am aware WhatsApp will only provide current location without any history.
