Hi I bought the Specialized Sirrus 2012 last year but I'm not too keen on it any more and am looking for a road bike.

Do most bike shops do trade-ins? Or should I just sell it on eBay? How much do you think I should sell it for?

Thanks

You're not supposed to sell a bike when you get another one!

I don't know of any lbs that do trade ins. You could try putting it up for sale on here in the classified section before going down the ebay route.

Classifieds on here or eBay. What model is it? How much did you pay? I'd expect about a 25% loss over a year. See what others are selling / sold for on eBay. Rememeber you'll pay 10% in fees. I'd go fpr Buy it now with offers. Don't set your minimum too low though

Look in the beginners section therea someone looking at the sirrus. Unsure of your size try the person

Thread is called which bike to start with

Unless you're short of funds, try getting the road bike before selling the Sirrus as you may appreciate having both.

Two bikes are better than one and three bikes are better than two?

I find 3 just enough ^_^
As other have said keep it if you can as its always nice to have a back up bike if your main bike is in for repairs etc .
If can only have 1 bike for whatever reason try on here on other forums and sites that others have suggested.

If you can afford it, I would do what the others have suggested and keep it. You could always fit full mudguards and winter tyres so you would be encouraged to keep cycling when winter sets in. Even fit the studded tyres like some have done.

I never had any joy selling on here, gum tree or bike radar. Sold 3 bikes on eBay within a week. Ok pay fees but I've normally got a cc bill to pay off having bought a new replacement bike

See if a friend is interested maybe, sold that way too

Thanks a lot for the advice guys. But I'm a poor poor student and need to sell on my hybrid before I can afford to get a road bike.
The model was Specialized Sirrus 2012 and I bought it for £350.
Where is the best place to sell then? Would I have to make any modifications to the bike?
Sorry about all the novice questions!

My local bike shop takes part exchange, so I imagine others do as well.

Where are you?

Someone might be able to come up with a name or two.

A Spesh hybrid in good nick should be desirable, so ought to sell.

A problem with a private sale is a buyer will reasonably want to test ride the bike, but you, also reasonably, will want some assurance he/she will bring it back.

You could do worse than try the classified section on here, a member with some posting history who express an interest is unlikely to steal it.

Or list it on ebay, but as a 'novice female' you may be an easy target for the criminal element which uses that site.

I've not personally had any issues with dodgy eBay buyers. Restrict your listing to UK buyers only, pick up only, cash only with paypal deposit. No western union nonsense, my sick friend in Africa needs a bike blah blah

If nervous, have a friend with you, big male one if it makes you feel better. I think personally you do get gut feel

Price wise, if in good condition, I'd list as a BIN for £280, accept £260, end up with around £235 after eBay fees. Or just advertise on here and get £250 but you will restrict your audience

Why would you need to make modifications to the bike?

If you are going to sell, I'd do it asap while the weather is still decent

Personally, if funds are tight, I'd keep the Sirrus, maybe stick some 25mm tyres on it and some bar ends and save for a road bike, all a bit depends why you have gone off it, what you are expecting from a road bike and what your budget is
