It has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Brexit.
MOTs will not be next either. IF we go down that route, registration will come first.
What do you think the DVLA have set up?......A system to register trailers & issue an individual number plate! next it'll be all trailers have to be registered, then it'll be all trailers will need to have an MOT, it won't be next month, it won't be next year or the year after that, but it will happen, this is just like when they moved BIK tax on company cars from being mileage based, to being emissions based, then lo & behold, a few years later car VED was priced on emissions, with some people getting quite a shock after calling for Gas Guzzling 4x4's to pay more VED, then getting their Ford Mondeo clobbered with a higher VED rate, and it's also an unintended consequence of Brexit, as in the rest of Europe, all trailers over 750Kg laden, must be registered, the U.K had a special dispensation to have the number plate of the towing vehicle displayed on the trailer, we're no longer in the E.U, that dispensation has gone, a quick google shows that France, Germany, Spain & Poland have to have an annual MOT type inspection, in Italy it's for trailers over 3500Kg, so you can see where this will end up, MOT's in the UK for Trailers, watch this space
