I had one of those watches. I used to sit outside Rumbelows turning the TVs up.
Round a friends one night I kept switching off his Sky box. He was starting to get annoyed with it and was on his knees with a screwdriver dismantling it before my giggling gave the game away.
Renault and Peugeot owners could also program them to unlock their cars, and the dibble at the time were worried villains would use it to steal cars, although I never heard of an actual case of this.
Anyway, going back to topic, where do people stand on the quietly passing wind on a train debate? I find the best way to avoid suspicion is to pretend to be asleep, and then pretend to be awoken by the commotion.
