Amazed you had never been on the underground. Obviously it's just something you've never needed to do, but just never occurred to me that people have not needed to do it
Me too, though I loved Reiver's description of it, see it through your eyes. Whilst it's not somewhere I regularly go, at least I went as a child and young adult. It must be confusing for anyone's first experience of it!Amazed you had never been on the underground. Search for single journey options on tfl.gov.uk and it'll tell you AFAIKI can't remember exactly. But it's a lot cheaper than buying a single journey ticket which was your "non-contactless" option
I have collected tickets from a manned counter recently. The person was fine with it.
You can use any card. It doesn't have to be the one that was used to make the booking despite National Rail saying this in a few places.
And indeed, despite having to nominate a station to collect, you can collect from any station. This ^^ any card will do ya

It worked out happily for me the time I caught the first train, before the station was manned, and all the ticket machines were in the locked part of the station. Fortunately I was able to pick up the ticket at the interchange station.Yup that too.
I have to collect a ticket for Jnr every friday. I decided to try to collect at a different station to the one that I had nominated on the web site, lo and behold it coughed up the ticket.
For you. I've been refused at the ticket office at Weston-super-Mare and told I must use the often-broken machines but that was years ago, in the FGW era. But I've also had tickets booked by Co-operatives UK HQ which I could only collect from a staffed ticket office and not from the machines. Maybe one of the simplifications stopped this absurdity and you can now collect either from either.Yep, never been a problem.
