Trains Kings Cross / St Pancras - help!

For native Londoners, or regular train visitors, why does National Rail think it'll take me over half an hour to walk from St Pancras (non-international) to King's Cross - both overland/main line rail?

The bit that's confusing me is the 37 minute walk from London St Pancras to London King's Cross.

I'm looking for a fairly step-free not-having-to-walk-too-far way to get from East Croydon to Kings Cross to take a train from there; hence trying to avoid the underground if possible - but suggestions welcome if there is a good route using the underground.

It's a flat, few minutes walk between Kings Cross and St Pancras!

Maybe 10 if you're carrying luggage and a bike in a bag. And you stop for a coffee!
Seriously, it's flat and no distance at all. You'll be fine.

I do this walk regularly from Victoria line tube stop at Kings Cross to St Pancras upstairs mainline. I'd certainly allow 10 mins - it can be really busy and these things never go exactly to plan. If it's 0830 and you need to buy a ticket too, I'd leave 20 mins. If you need a coffee, then 30 mins is not unreasonable.

There's also some nice viewing points for a relaxing coffee near the Eurostar exit points. B)

In the bad old days, when there was a phenomenon known as "Kings Cross Thameslink", it did indeed take a fair old chunk of time to navigate between that subterranean wonder, and either of the mainline stations. Thing was, signposts inexplicably directed you to street level and you then had to negotiate two busy main roads to get into KC by the main entrance. Only the initiates knew that you could easily nip along the Piccadilly Line platform, up through the LU ticket hall, and you were right on the KC mainline concourse without ever having to go into the open!

Ah well: it's all gone now. I could never get my head around the move of the Thameslinks (sorry: "First Capital Connect"s) to St Pancakes - to say nothing of the Eurostars. Waterloo was just fine for me...
