Both of my 'nice' road bikes have 34/50 up front and 12-27 on the back.

My 'best' bike has 36/50 and 13/26, so I think that I'll be on that. Then again, I might just try another bike which has 34/50 and 13/28 - it may be the more sensible option, given that I've only twice ridden over 70 miles in my entire life.

I will be on my defy 2 compact no idea what the gears are but they are ok for most hills

Not sure yet. Either the compact with lowest 34 x 28 or the triple with 30 x 25. Not a lot in it but I prefer to spin up hills than push a big gear.

I'd love to try a 30 x 25 on this ride . . . . . . . and so would Noodley

Seems a 7.30 b/fast at the new Inn is attainable ^_^

So we will start at 8.30 am in Llandrindod, Any objections ?

Many modern bikes are 50/34 & 12/28, so hopefully your bike will have the same. It should be enough; thing is though, LD has a habit of not being entirely honest accurate about the steepness of the hills.

If we leave at 8.30am, we should get back for 7pm (ish).

I'm deffo going to put some lights on my bike - I know from experience, that these rides don't usually finish at the expected time. I did ColinJ's epic 75 mile Settle ride and told my missus that I'd be back home in Shropshire for 7pm; I actually left Settle at 9.30pm and got home just before midnight . At least Llandrindod is only 50 miles from home . . . . . . . perhaps (in the fashion of LD) I'll cycle home .

Your total for the day, is going to be at least 110 miles - impressive stuff.

I've cycled as far as that in my life !
