Cannot AL not see that if they actually win their right to use the bus lanes like black cabs then TfL will probably ban everyone except buses, bicycles and motorbikes from bus lanes.

Why are any taxis (forgive generic abusage) allowed in bus lanes? To my mind, unlike a private car, taxis must spend a good proportion of their day not ferrying someone towards a destination and therefore are not 100% journey efficient, if ya get what I mean.

I'd be surprised if his bid to use lanes was rejected, PHVs are already allowed in other cities' bus lanes.
I have no idea on the numbers of other cities.
But in London, there are around 8,000 buses, 25,000 taxis and around 60,000 minicabs.

say during the day that 18,000 taxis and 6,500 buses are in operation. Even if only half of the minicabs are used during the day, you are still more than doubling the motorised traffic that is using the bus lanes.

Bus lanes are one of the best cycling facilities in London, if you add more boxes, it will make them worse.

Because they're providing a public transport service, I guess.

It was probably seen as another way to hinder people from driving into already congested cities while at the same time giving easier access via bus/taxi.
